MARIELLE BORDEWIJK

Food designer & trend watcher

Marielle studied Industrial Design engineering at the University of Technology (TU) in Delft, the Netherlands, and then worked as food marketing specialist at Unilever. Since 2002 she has been an independent food designer, combining her marketing experience with the design skills in a totally unique way. She strongly believes that implementing design and design thinking into food, can unlock full creative potential and create better food and packaging solutions.

As an industrial designer, Marielle has been trained to design products that are produced on a large scale. Therefore she focuses on food and drink that is made in high quantities. It is exactly in the automated mass production of everyday food and drink that there is still a world to conquer. With her food design thinking method and designs Marielle wants to achieve that we put more care and attention into our food and drink. She actively involves both producer and consumer to achieve this, and she uses all her professional design tools she can put her hands on. She has worked for more than 80 food companies.

Next to that Marielle gives lectures to universities and colleges. She is a partner of the food design and eating lab of Technical University Delft. Together with ass professor Rick Schifferstein she is working on a research paper and lectures the new  class Food design at the faculty of Industrial design engineering.
